about the gathering
Come one, come all musicians, singers, dancers, music and fun lovers. Bring your instruments and your dancing shoes for three days of North American and Hawaiian old time music, dancing, camping, crafting, learning, teaching, and jamming. Join us for the fourth annual Kauai Old Time Gathering at the historic Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) Camp and Kokeʻe Lodge in the beautiful mountains of Kokeʻe State Park. Singers, dancers, banjo players, steel guitarists, ukulele players, fiddlers, pakini and upright bassists and more, we have workshops just for you hosted by a talented line-up of renowned artists from the mainland United States and Hawaiʻi.
Daytime events during the gathering are focused on learning rather than performance. All skill levels are welcome to attend a variety of musical workshops on topics ranging from traditional banjo playing, to fiddling, to vocal harmonies. There will also be opportunities to learn hula, traditional cooking, basket weaving and other crafts. Everyone is welcome, whether you play an instrument, love to listen or just want to relax in a beautiful place surrounded by mountains, music, and a friendly community. In the evening, everyone comes together at the historic Kokeʻe Lodge to enjoy musical performances, old time dancing, and delicious food and drinks prepared and served by the dedicated Kokeʻe Lodge Restaurant staff. See 2019ʻs schedule here for an example of what to expect.
The event is located in the remote mountains of Kokeʻe State Park and camping and lodging is limited. Bunkhouses beds, private cabins, and camping reservations will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
There are countless things to do and see when not enjoying the offerings of the Kauaʻi Old Time Gathering and Kokeʻe Lodge. If you enjoy learning about history, you can visit the Kokeʻe Museum and learn about the historic CCC Camp, the unique flora and fauna of the area, and buy gifts to take home with you. If you enjoy hiking and the outdoors you should plan time to explore the over 50 miles of hiking trails and visit the jaw dropping vistas of Kalalau Valley and Waimea Canyon near Kokeʻe Lodge. Please look over the important park safety information here.
This special event is made possible and sponsored by Kokeʻe Lodge, the local non-profit Hale Puna, and generous donations from local businesses and people like you.
